TEKA | Spring Equinox
On March 20, the Spring Equinox is celebrated, when the length of the day catches up and overtakes the night – then the astronomical spring begins. On this occasion we invite you to step through the gates of spring at the event “Teka” (Eng. “flowing” or “rising”) in Šventaragis Valley.
This year, another celebration of the awakening of nature has approached to the Spring Equinox – Easter, whose main symbol – the Easter egg – will also become the figures of the equinox, indicating the emergence of a new beginning. In the spring, as the sun rises higher and higher, the wisdom of the ancestors flows through the patterns of Easter eggs, inviting us to celebrate the victory of light over darkness.
The Spring Equinox will be celebrated in the Šventaragis Valley surrounded by myths and history, where poetry, music and the play of lights will awaken nature and remind of ancient Lithuanian traditions. The installation of ice Easter eggs installed here will invite you not only to admire the patterns, but also to observe the flow of melting ice in the long run.
On March 20, at 8:00 p. m., surrounded by ice eggs sculptures, the creative folklore group “Braška lizdas” will perform interpretations of folk songs from the Dieveniškės region and traditional Lithuanian songs of the spring period. During the celebration, we will also hear the poetry of Vladas Braziūnas and fire patterns lit by Vilnius schoolchildren.
